Robert Pettengill
Robert S. Pettengill joined the Cathedral Boys Choir in 1950 and was with it for most of the 1950s first as a treble, then alto, then page turner. He took piano and organ lessons from Robert Cato, then Organist and Choirmaster. Bob and his wife Priscilla née Coe, who was in the Girls Choir, were married in St. Paul’s in 1962. After a 34-year career with General Motors that included two overseas assignments they settled back in the Detroit area. Bob became interested in offering his help in supporting the St. Paul’s choirs. He serves as Choir Alumni coordinator and he organized a Choir Reunion in 2003. As a result of that activity a list of former choristers’ names totaling about 1,200 was developed. Over 300 were contacted and about 100 attended the reunion. Bob says the choir experience for him was formative. He hopes other youths can also have this experience at important years in their development.
