Concert events in March.....
Le Chemin de la Croix
Friday, March 7, 7:30 p.m.
The Stations of the Cross has been a devotional tool for centuries, its beauty inspiring poets and musicians alike. Marcel Dupré’s celebrated musical commentaries on the stations were first improvised in concert in alternation with stanzas of French poet Paul Claudel’s Le Chemin de la Croix, and later Dupré wrote them down, creating one of the masterpieces of music for the pipe organ. The entire cycle will be played by organists James Biery, Aaron Tan, Richard Newman, and Jeremy David Tarrant, with English translations of Claudel's poems read by Michael Stone-Richards.
Suggested donation at the door: $10 (adults), $5 (students and seniors). All performers are donating their time and all donations benefit the Cathedral Choir's England fund.
Saturday, March 29, 12 Noon-5:00 p.m.
Musicians from all over the Detroit Metro area will join for a five-hour musical celebration of the work of Johann Sebastian Bach. Twenty-minute “mini concerts” will take place throughout the day and all performers are donating their time and talent for this fundraising program to help support the Cathedral Choir’s tour in England in July, 2014. Come for the whole day, or drop by for a few sets…..come join in the celebration of this musical master.
