Crossroads

Crossroads is a social service outreach agency in Detroit. Its primary mission is to support the community at large by providing emergency assistance, advocacy, and counseling to anyone in need. Acting in partnership with many other agencies, parishes, hospitals, companies and organizations in the metro area, Crossroads offers assistance in the form of a hand-up; they work with their clients to meet their immediate needs, and help them assess their situations to lessen the likelihood of future problems.
Crossroads began its life in the Cathedral under the leadership of the Reverend Canon James A. McLaren and a few dedicated parishioners. (The current Executive Director, Mary Honsel, is Canon McLaren's daughter.) It soon outgrew its space and moved to a house on Forest Avenue and then to a former church across the street. Over time, it became independent of the Cathedral and became its own not-for-profit organization. In 2008, the Crossroads moved to its current location with assistance from the Cathedral.
